We formed a Rotary club which grew from the Gore Park Community Outreach group. Gore Park Community Outreach started on Feb 13, 2021 with 6 volunteers on a winter stormy day and we served 35 guests around Gore Park. We started with peanut butter and jam sandwiches and a big pot of chicken noodle soup.
Each Saturday morning (52 weeks per year) we meet at Gore Park (Hamilton), to help provide a hot meal and food supplies. Our work also support people in need in Burlington, at McMaster University and we are helping in Brantford and St. Catharines.
Rotary clubs from across Burlington and Hamilton fund $80,000 van to support food insecurity program at Gore Park
May 2024 -- Thanks to the four Burlington Rotary clubs (Burlington, Burlington Central, Burlington Lakeshore and Burlington North) and the Rotary Club of Hamilton, a group of over 100 volunteers, who deliver food to hundreds of people each week at Gore Park, now have a van to safely transport food each week.
The group began, working with Meals of Hope, local churches and Gore Park Community Outreach.
In December 2024, a group of 30 of the volunteers formed Rotary Burlington Gore Park. The group supports individuals facing food insecurity in Burlington and area as well as Hamilton.
How we began our "Service Above Self" ...
In the middle of a global pandemic, it was clear that many individuals in our community fell through the cracks.
Recognizing a need, a small group of volunteers took action.
On February 13, 2021 a group of six volunteers brought food to Gore Park and began to serve others ... in the middle of on a snowy winter day. A total of 35 guests enjoyed hot chicken noodle soup and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
By 2024, hundreds of individuals in need are served at Gore Park each Saturday morning.
Areas of Service in Burlington and Hamilton
While Rotary Burlington Gore Park is widely known for our Saturday service at Gore Park (Hamilton) since 2021, where we currently serve over 1,000 people weekly, and our partnership with McMaster Food Collective (food bank) within McMaster University. our service is Burlington based as are the majority of our members.
In Burlington we partner with The Meals of Hope Program at Port Nelson United Church and are directly supporting Bonnie Place senior’s home with food supplies for their in-house food pantry every Tuesday and Friday.
We are support the Meals of Hope to serve weekly meal and food programs at Wesley Shelter (The Burlington Inn), Motel 6 (homeless) and Burlington Baptist Church (Seniors Meal program). In all, we help over 600 people in Burlington each week.
We are so thankful to the Burlington Rotarians who have been regular volunteers with us for several years. They assist us weekly with donation pickups, bringing supplies to Gore Park and serving with us at Gore Park as well.
